The ASA pathway

What is an IQC?

An ASA Instructor Qualification Clinic is a formal evaluation of experienced sailors who are ready to teach. The initial Basic Keelboat clinic lasts two and a half days; higher-level certifications are commonly evaluated over the following one or two days.

Before you apply

Prerequisites

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have at least three years of sailing experience.
  • Have teaching experience or demonstrate a clear aptitude for communicating sailing skills.
  • Be able to perform to the standards in the ASA International Sailing Logbook.
  • Hold ASA 101 Basic Keelboat certification or successfully challenge the exam through an ASA affiliate school.

Marina Sailing Instructor Scholarship

Get certified. Teach your first course. We reimburse the tuition.

Marina Sailing is recruiting instructors across our harbors, with Newport Beach administering the scholarship program. Qualified candidates who complete their approved IQC certification and teach their first course with Marina Sailing will be reimbursed for their full IQC tuition.
